Intuitive Guidance With a Dose of Compassion
About Me
I’m Vicki, the person behind Not Your Typical Tarot.
I’ve been intuitive for as long as I can remember. Claircognizance (simply knowing things) and clairaudience (internally hearing guidance from spirit) are the ways information most often comes through for me, along with mediumship. For most of my life, though, being psychic was something I knew about myself but didn’t exactly advertise.
Then I had a daughter who turned out to be very psychic herself. Helping her understand and trust what she was experiencing eventually made me question why I was still keeping that part of myself tucked away. Somewhere along the way, I came out of the psychic closet too—and here we are.
My background clearly influences the way I read. I have an AFA in Photography, a BA in Psychology and Art Therapy, and an MSW. I’ve spent much of my professional life helping people understand themselves, including work as a social worker, special education teacher, and therapist. I’m also neurodivergent and a certified energy healer.
All of that means I’ve spent decades paying attention to people, patterns, imagery, symbolism, emotions, and the stories we tell about ourselves, deeply connecting to the energy of the person I’m with.
And that shows up in the way I read tarot.
If you know tarot, you might occasionally think, “Wait...that’s not what that card means!” And you may be right. 😂 I know and use the traditional meanings of the cards, but I also read intuitively. I’m listening to my guides and paying attention to whatever catches my attention in the artwork—a facial expression, a color, an object in the background, or one tiny detail that suddenly feels important. Sometimes the card itself is the message. Sometimes it’s simply the doorway through which the message comes.
My readings are conversational, intuitive, compassionate, occasionally funny, and very much not a performance. I use the cards, but I don’t limit myself to them. If I hear something, know something, feel something, or notice something that seems important, I’ll tell you.
And I don't believe tarot should tell you what to do with your life. You have agency. I can tell you what I see, offer another perspective, and perhaps help you recognize something you already knew but hadn't quite been able to see.
One more thing: my readings can get a little messy. Sometimes the cards end up all over my desk as I pull, clarify, make connections, refer back to previous cards and follow where the reading wants to go. It may look like chaos from your side of the camera, but trust me—my intuition knows exactly where everything is in that messy little space. 😂 I’d rather follow the thread of a reading than worry about keeping the cards in tidy rows.
That combination of intuition, imagery, psychology, life experience, and a healthy willingness to go wherever the reading takes us:
That’s Not Your Typical Tarot.
